I am the Gunnar Myrdal Assistant Professor of Economics in the Economics Department at Tufts University. I am also a faculty research fellow at NBER, a Research Affiliate at IZA, and an Invited Researcher at LEO. My research in labor and public economics uses applied econometric methods to study military service, how workers and firms respond to tax and benefit policies, policing, and conflict. Across these settings, I aim to bring credible causal evidence to bear on first-order public policy and labor-market questions, with the goal of informing policy and identifying ways to expand economic opportunity. I received my Ph.D. in economics from Boston University. Prior to joining Tufts, I was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point and a Research Analyst in the Army's Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis.
